The Curvy Industry Experience

I’m sure your curiosity is peaked and you are wondering just what The Curvy Industry Experience was all about. No worries, I am here to be your personal guide and help explain just what this dynamic experience was all about. The plus size industry is a billion dollar industry and continues to grow because Cosmo now deems plus size as a size 8, imagine that. This event was the first of it’s kind held here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and created by none other than Kristen Booker, CEO of Vanity Curves Boutique, located in Arlington, Texas. Her vision was to create a platform for plus size women of all demographics and create them with insiders in the plus industry.

TheCIE 16 started with a Fashion Mixer on Friday Night at the Hotel Nylo in Las Colinas. There was an easy check-in accompanied with a welcoming aura. There were drinks, music, and great networking among all the beautiful ladies. With that being said, everyone look fantastic and rocked their own individual style with a boldness that said they were confident in who they were and where they are going. I met everyone from radio hosts, models, pageant queens, and boutique owners, just to name a few.

Saturday Morning, kicked off with a Workshop and closed with a Panel Discussion. They offered golden nuggets of information from some very resourceful power houses in the plus industry. They set out to provide invaluable knowledge, training, and experiences from expert professionals and they surpassed any expectations that anyone could’ve had.

Gwen Devoe, Creator and Executive Producer of Full Figured Fashion Week was there. She been featured in everything from Good Day New York, Entertainment Tonight, and Huffington Post Woman. She partnered with Chenese Lewis, a multi-media personality,Former Miss Plus America, and multiple radio and television appearances. These two partnered together to provide us with priceless information on how to successfully put together your next fashion event and gaining sponsorship. They even shared the in’s and out’s on how to break into the Plus Industry, no matter which avenue you’re going through.

Christina Mendez, one of the most gorgeous faces in the plus size modeling industry has worked on campaigns from Ashley Stewart and Sofia Vergera. She’s also been featured in Cosmo Latina, Glamour, and Essence Magazine. Multiple television appearances on shows such as Project Runway, Good Morning America, and The Rachel Ray Show. She combined her knowledge with a veteran in the plus size industry, Lisa Scott. Scott has modeled for companies like Macy’s, Target, Avenue, Belks, Lane Bryant, and Ashley Stewart. She is also an ambassador for many brands and is currently still a plus size fashion blogger. Their workshop tackled how to become a model in a competitive industry and to not let the fear of “no” keep you from pursuing your dreams.

After the separate workshops both group joined together for an AMAZING Panel Discussion accompanied with a great Q & A Session hosted by the Fabulous KiKi J from K104.

As you can see there was a plethora of knowledge poured out and I am extremely appreciative for all that I gained. Kristen, has truly out done herself and I thank her for bringing her vision to life for us all!!!

Plus Size Embracement: Curvy Women Take Over

This cover of Ebony has given me so much life. These ladies are bold, confident, and beautiful. Not too mention that these ladies look flawless so a huge kudos out to the stylist that helped them flaunt their stuff.

Plus size in America is deemed size 10 and up. With that being said, just about everyone I know is there or sitting on the dock of the bay…lol.

Seriously, you have to embrace yourself where you are. If you’re a 10 and you feel flawless, continue to walk in stride and keep it pushing. There are so many society handles on what’s deemed beautiful and what’s not. I’m at a point where I know who I am and I embrace it. The things that I don’t like, I work on. The things I do love, I work harder to perfect them. I like to deem myself “PERFECTLY IMPERFECT”.

These women standing in confidence, will inspire the next generation to not allow society nor social media to place a damper on their looks. Keep rocking it ladies!

What is the Dallas Pin Show Exactly?

I recently posted some pictures on my IG in regards to the Dallas Pin Show. I have received several inquiries from people who just want to know exactly what the Pin Show is. So I’m going to break it down so you’ll be in attendance on next year.

The Pin Show is a fashion show that features collections from local established as well as new designers. The event is open to the public and is thrown together by Julie McCullough. The designers feature pieces from different categories. This year’s collections were in bridal, urban street wear, men’s wear, women’s wear, swim wear, jewelry and even hand painted bags by Wendistry. There was also live music from Zhora and friends and an aerial performer during intermission.

There’s no other fashion show like it so please get your tickets and tables for next year. It’s one show you’ve got to see in order to believe! Keep yourself in the mix by going to http://www.thepinshow.com. The website also has photo galleries from the show as well.

Who is Jazzie P

IMG_2755Jazzie P is looking to make her mark on the fashion and entertainment industry. Loving all things fashionable and not being afraid to create my own boundaries with my personal style have allowed me to create a certain platform for myself. Still in the creative phases of my entrepreneurial career I am learning to take one day at a time and consistently try to be better than I was the day before.

Currently, I’m a full time college student which is a task within itself considering I am a single parent. Then I work two part time jobs that keep me quite busy. I try and volunteer with different opportunities and work a lot with my church on top of building a brand for myself. This life of mine is quite hectic. However, it’s something that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Giving my son’s an example of what hard work is and how it pays off is very important to me.

I am hoping that my transparency of my journey and outlook on different topics will help someone else learn to live out loud. I’ve procrastinated with my first post for quite sometime and realized I can never fail, if I never try. I want to inspire others to be comfortable in the skin they are in. I am perfectly imperfect and I’m okay with it. Meaning, there is always room for improvement but I don’t beat myself up over the things that aren’t so great, I just work on them!
